Puerto Ricans lie lifeless; homes remain covered in tarps, people remain displaced, and there is no recovery in near sight. America’s handling of Hurricane Maria has been utterly incompetent and self serving. Anywhere from 1,000 to 3,000 American citizens are dead as a result of the natural disaster. Our federal government has under-provided to American citizens and continue to so do in the wake of another hurricane season.
Former president George W. Bush received rightful hoards of back-lash for Katrina, however, most of the media has been silent on Trump’s remiss in the handling of Maria.
Currently, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders have proposed a semi-Marshall plan in Puerto Rico. Puerto Ricans are Americans just as Floridians, Ohioans, Texans, Oregonians, and so on. But basic rights and protections are not being granted to our own Puerto rican — our own America citizens.
Action must be taken or Puerto Ricans will remain the victims and casualties of Maria and potential upcoming hurricanes. This situation needs to be in the limelight once again.
